SMARTS InCharge IP Performance Manager
InCharge IP Performance Manager builds upon SMARTS-patented Codebook Correlation Technology™ (CCT) to pinpoint exceptions before devices fail. CCT is breakthrough technology that automates both real-time analysis and adaptation to dynamically changing environments. Modern network elements measure thousands of parameters and produce many thousands of alarms - impossible for operators to process. With the large number of devices and the wide variety of equipment in today's typical infrastructure, traditional event management approaches no longer scale adequately. Driven by models that describe key conditions indicative of problems, the InCharge IP Performance Manager automatically polls for relevant data maintained by each element and applies intelligent analysis to distill the polled data into meaningful information. This information is used to invoke actions necessary to sustain the health of network elements critical to service delivery.
InCharge IP Performance Manager is highly efficient, using optimized polling techniques in a multithreaded implementation. It polls only for those values needed to identify important exceptional conditions, minimizing the load on the network and on the managed elements. Leveraging the results of InCharge IP Availability Manager, it knows when managed elements are unreachable and automatically disables polling for those elements until they are reachable again.
InCharge IP Performance Manager is easily configured through a high-level graphical user interface. Users can define groups of objects using a wide variety of matching criteria, including the name of the object, its IP address, the model or the vendor name, etc. Users can then associate problem-monitoring policies with each of these groups, defining which problems to monitor for which elements in the group, how often to poll relevant data, and so on.
Like all InCharge solutions, InCharge IP Performance Manager adapts automatically to changes in the network configuration. As changes occur, the application automatically updates the network map, assigns newly discovered elements to their corresponding groups, applies the appropriate polling and performance thresholds, and begins monitoring the new elements. This automatic adaptation of monitoring and correlation logic to changes in the managed environment eliminates the need for development, maintenance, or any other manual intervention.
